Ex-New York State Governor, Andrew Cuomo
The New York State Governor, Andrew Cuomo, finally resigned on Tuesday - August 10, 2021, after an investigation confirmed series of allegations of sexual harassment against him by 11 women.
The Democrat
Cuomo who has served as governor of the fourth most populous US state since
2011, has previously denied the allegations and ignored his calls to resign.
In a
20-minute televised address, Cuomo reiterated that he had not done anything
wrong, but said that he was taking full responsibility for the hurt inflicted
on women by his unsuccessful attempts to show affection or make a joke.
Cuomo said
he concluded that the decision to challenge the charges while staying in office
would paralyze the state government and cost taxpayers millions of dollars.
“I think
given the circumstances, the best I can do now to help is step aside and let
the government get back to government business. Therefore, this is what I will
do, ”he said, adding that his resignation will take effect in 14 days.
Under the state constitution, Lieutenant Governor Katie Hochul, a Democrat from western
New York, will serve as governor until the end of Cuomo's term in December
2022. She will be the first woman to hold this post.
Cuomo, 63,
was elected governor three times, like his late father Mario Cuomo. He
previously served as US Secretary of Housing and Urban Development from 1997 to
2001 under former President Bill Clinton.
Cuomo is not different from any American politician, whether male or female. Every American politician is a chronic liar, thus; many have lost their respect and integrity in American politics.
American politicians lie about everything including, medical issues, vaccines, diseases, etc, as a result, many have lost confidence in them. It's sad but that's the reality.
