Kleptomania is widely recognized as a psychological disorder rather than a simple act of theft or a purely hereditary condition. It falls under the category of impulsecontrol disorders, where individuals experience an overwhelming and irresistible urge to steal items, they do not need and often have little or no monetary value.

The act is driven by a cycle of rising tension, followed by temporary relief once the theft is committed. Unlike typical theft, kleptomania is not rooted in greed, financial hardship, or criminal intent. It is a mental health condition that compels individuals to act against their own better judgment.
