The Belgian government is fighting tirelessly to avoid the spread of COVID-19 in the country.
The coronavirus, also known as COVID–19, has affected thousands of businesses, the
economy, and social lives around the
globe, including Belgium.
Like other countries
that have implemented strict measures to avoid the spread of the disease,
Belgium has already laid out rules for the general public to follow, which have
been very useful.
On Sunday, April 5, 1,123 new cases were reported; with 686 patients residing in Flanders, 262 in
Wallonia, and 137 in Brussels. There were 38 cases for which the government couldn't give much information about their place of residence.
However, as of now,
according to ‘WorldOMeter,’ an international team of developers, researchers,
and volunteers providing world statistics on the coronavirus, Belgium has registered 20,814 cases and 1,632 deaths at the moment.
The number of cases
in the country keeps increasing, and the number of new hospitalizations seems to
be stabilizing, but remains fairly high, yet with the efforts of healthcare personnel, working around the clock to save lives.
The country has already entered lockdown over the coronavirus crisis, with citizens asked
to stay at home and limit contact to their closest family. From noon on
Wednesday, all non-essential shops and open-air markets closed, and people were
expected to work at home.
Last week, in Liége
airport, the Flemish Minister of Health, Wouter Beke, revealed that a load of 1.6 million mouth masks passed
quality tests and can now be delivered to residential care centers.
